Future-oriented Stories of Digital Schools’ Capital: Imagining times, places and sociabilities of education
This project focuses on fostering literacies for the futures of education by recognising the lived experiences of elementary school teachers and pupils, with particular emphasis on the processes of digitalisation within schools. It seeks to explore time, place, and sociability as foundational dimensions that shape policy development, using imaginative envisioning to position schools as creators of education’s future.
In Portugal, a pilot initiative is currently underway in elementary schools to advance the digitalisation of educational processes and experiences. A key challenge of this initiative is to create digital narratives that promote humane and sustainable digital transitions in the educational experiences of teachers and pupils, while imagining the future of schools’ capital.
The research employs a narrative methodology, integrating participatory approaches and artistic practices to delve into how digitalisation functions as a form of cultural production in educational contexts. The project aspires to generate new perspectives on schools’ capital, preparing education to navigate the challenges of the futures ahead.
