Pedagogical supervision: contributions to the improvement of school mediation practices based on the articulation between School and University

School Mediation, understood in its relevance for the construction of a more inclusive school and citizen coexistence, is relatively recent in schools and needs a more in-depth analysis with a view to consolidating and disseminating its practices. Based on the assumption that best practices of School Mediation can be enhanced by Pedagogical Supervision, it is assumed that the connection between theory and practice, in a collaborative way of teaching and learning processes and professional development, is understood as a space for transformation of subjects and contexts. This exploratory project has as its object, and which configures its innovative character, the Pedagogical Supervision of School Mediation practices, carried out in the context of articulation between School and University.

A questionnaire survey will be applied to all teachers of a Basic Education school, in the Metropolitan Area of Porto, which has a School Mediation project under development. In order to analyze the potentialities and challenges of Pedagogical Supervision and School Mediation practices, based on the perceptions and experiences of teachers, semi-structured interviews will be conducted with 6 teachers, selected based on the criterion of previous continuous training in School Mediation, in previous editions already promoted by ReLeCo "Social and School Mediation", in articulation with the Mediation Institute. The treatment of these data will guide the design of the short-term training action, referring to Pedagogical Supervision in School Mediation practices to be promoted to teachers, enabling the participation of students of the master’s degree in educational sciences, specialization in Pedagogical Supervision. The students of the Master's Degree will be actively involved throughout the research, in the monitoring of the work of the dyads in pedagogical supervision and in the collection of data, through a process developed in a collaborative and articulated way between ReLeCo researchers, Master's teachers and in-service teachers. Thus, subsequently, a joint reflection on the data will be carried out, through the realization of two focus groups: (i) with the 6 participating professors and the student who followed the supervision process; (ii) with the students involved in the data processing. This is a decision that will allow the identification of the contributions of the articulation between School and University in the training of Master's students and in the professional development of teachers, within the scope of the Pedagogical Supervision of School Mediation practices, as well as related to learning in research. This project aims to contribute to the integration of young researchers in CeiED's R&D activities, being the starting point for the realization of a PhD Thesis and a Master's Thesis.
