SEMINAR | Environmental education, policy, and public schools: foundations and possibilities in the Brazilian context

Date: May 8, 2025 – 2:00 PM (GMT+1)

Format: Online event

Environmental education in Brazil is a field of study, practice, and research still under construction, despite its widespread implementation across various social spaces: in scientific research, science communication, NGOs, social movements, schools, and public universities.

In this seminar, we aim to discuss environmental education in Brazil, particularly from the creation of the National Environmental Education Policy (PNEA) more than 25 years ago and its development since then. We will also explore its integration into different social settings — especially public schools — as well as macropolitical-pedagogical trends and concrete possibilities for environmental educational actions grounded in a critical and anti-capitalist educational perspective.

15th CeiED Researchers' Meeting

Past, Present, and Future of Doctoral Education: A Reflection 20 Years After the Salzburg Principles

The Interdisciplinary Research Center for Education and Development (CeiED) announces the 15th Researchers' Meeting, which will take place from July 10 and 11, 2025. This edition invites the academic community to critically reflect on the evolution of doctoral education, twenty years after the definition of the Salzburg Principles.

Over the past two decades, guided by these principles and broader political, scientific, and institutional agendas, doctoral education has undergone profound transformations. These reforms have promoted more structured, internationalized, and interdisciplinary training, aligned with contemporary scientific, social, and economic challenges.

The emphasis on mobility, diverse career paths, and advanced researcher training reflects an increasing concern for epistemological rigor, the quality of scientific output, and its real impact. However, significant challenges persist, such as the digitalization of education, the need for greater representation, the connection between academia and society, funding models, and employment conditions.

The 15th Researchers' Meeting aims to serve as a space for critical reflection on these challenges and opportunities, bringing together diverse academic trajectories and fostering dialogue across multiple fields of knowledge. Through this diversity, the event seeks to assess how implemented reforms have contributed to strengthening doctoral research and researcher training in an ever-changing context. Additionally, it is essential to discuss the role of universities and research institutions in developing effective responses to contemporary social, political, and technological challenges, reinforcing the link between knowledge production, advanced training, and the socio-political responsibility of science.

CeiED invites the entire scientific community—undergraduate, master's, doctoral, and postdoctoral students, as well as researchers and faculty from various fields—to participate in this debate. Contributions are encouraged that explore the impact of changes in doctoral education from interdisciplinary perspectives, addressing global and local challenges and proposing pathways to strengthen research, innovation, and knowledge reciprocity. This meeting aims to be a meaningful space for discussion and knowledge-sharing for all those interested in academic research dynamics and the sustainable future of doctoral education.
